Landis has made some of my personal favourite movies in Animal House, Trading places and The Blues Brothers. This attempt at resurrecting the Beverley Hills Cop franchise was a mistake. It was stripped of a number of the characters from the original and was heavy on the none too subtle comedy. Murphy was at that time trying to play a more seroius cop role and Landis was unclear how to accomodate him. It's an example of two talents coiming together and producing a film that is not terriblke but has zero chemistry. It 's a paint by numbers movie that does no oine involved any favours. The term 'Generic' sums it up nicely
