Carry on Liz Fraser
Liz Fraser was born in London on August 14th 1933 and was the British equivalent of the "dumb blonde" that was popular in the late fifties. Usually portraying a pretty blonde who is both naive and sexy, her characters have names like Gladys, Cynthia, Ethel or Molly. Fraser began making films in 1953 using her real name of Elizabeth Winch, sometimes in rare serious roles, she is best known for comedy roles within troupes of performers but has appeared in social dramas The Family Way and Up the junction.
She has appeared in a number of films that reflect British cinema during the 60s and 70s. From I’m alright Jack the satire on capitalism starring Peter Sellers, The Pure Hell of St Trinian's, one of a number of films about the unruly schoolgirls, Doctor in Love another series of comedy films, to being in a sizable number of the Carry on Films. She also appeared in the genre of ultra soft pornesque ‘Confessions of’ and ‘Adventures of’ movies in the seventies.
She has appeared along side Peter Sellers, Tony Hancock, the cast of Dad’s Army, Alistair Sim, Norman Wisdom and the Sex Pistols.Liz Fraser has made over 50 movies and appeared in a number of TV shows such as the Bill, Last of the Summer Wine, Holby City, Hancock’s half hour and The Avengers. For someone growing up with British comedy films Liz was an ever present. And during the drab seventies she raised a smile in the dreary confessions movies.
I must admit that as a kid I had a crush on the lovely Liz.
