MY HIT LIST: DON’T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE-Eric B & Rakim

don't sweat the technique

From the duo who produced some seminal early Hip Hop tracks came Don't Sweat the Technique. Eric B & Rakim released it on June 23, 1992. Their last big hit as a duo, self recorded and produced by Eric B. & Rakim in New York it has a jazzier sound to it aligned with a terse vocal delivery. It also contains a smorgasbord of samples; Give It Up- Kool and the Gang, Queen of the Nile-Young Holt Unlimited, Right on for the Darkness-Curtis Mayfield and Take Me to the Mardi Gras by Bob James.
It is one of the last Hip Hop record from an era when some of the originators produced smoother records that have a popular audience and broke into the mainstream charts this gave way to the sound that has become more synonymous with the genre; less soul and more aggression.
