MY HIT LIST: STONED LOVE-THE SUPREMES

"Stoned Love" the 1970 single by The Supremes was the groups last top ten hit It features Jean Terrel* on lead vocals, as by this time Diana Ross had gone solo.

Written by Kenny Thomas the song is a call for peace and understanding and it most connected with anti The Vietnam War sentiment that was around at the time.
On it’s release there were fears from some radio stations that the song was about drug use; fortunately calm heads prevailed and it rightfully received air play.

Stoned Love is a fabulous song with an emotional and sweet lead vocal and great harmonies. It’s one of those songs that make you understand the magic of Motown

*The other hit by the post-Ross Supremes featuring Jean Terrel on lead was the tremendous "Up a Ladder to the Roof"
